Hi, Carl,
I hope my last entry did not discourage you. I¡¯m still a kid, and sometimes, I don¡¯t¡¯ exactly know how to be tactful. However, what I said was the truth. Good for you to know that I¡¯m not keeping anything from you, and I¡¯m still being pretty blunt. My mom suggested that instead of being so blunt, to some of my own experiences with you. Well, here they are!
It¡¯s really hard to get used to sleeping with so many kids, especially if you¡¯re like me, and have a huge room by yourself at home. Don¡¯t worry, though now, I¡¯m more worried that I won¡¯t be used to sleeping in a room by myself at home. I¡¯m know that it may be very annoying when you¡¯re exhausted, but your roommates want to talk until midnight, and nobody from your dorm can function right the next morning.
Even now, I don¡¯t quite feel comfortable in my dorm. For example, one of the girls who didn¡¯t really like me isn¡¯t going to come back next year, and the other kids in my dorm all piled up on her bed, and said things like ¡°I¡¯ll call you¡± or ¡°Please come back¡±, and I really didn¡¯t know what to say.
Sometimes, when you think that you are joking, nobody laughs, and it¡¯s pretty creepy, like they don¡¯t understand you or something. When that happens, I usually explain to my closer friends that I was trying to make a joke, but after you say something, and there is suddenly a moment of silence, it¡¯s still pretty unnerving.
It¡¯s really important to have someone that you trust, and that you can confide in. It is not very easy to make friends there because you are new and different. When I first got to Limai, I had to rely on my instincts and the tone of somebody¡¯s voice to know if they are insulting me or complimenting me. Now I usually can understand what they are saying, and my mom even says that I have some bad habits now form staying with people who well, umm¡ right now I often think words in Chinese, and I usually can find the right word in English, I hope you know what I mean ¡°ma4 ren2 de hua4 bu4 li2 zui3¡±.
Anything else you want to know about Limai?
Where are you going when you arrive?
I am sorry that I called you that; I guess I wasn¡¯t really thinking, so sorry.
I should go do my homework now; my mom just asked me what was taking me so long!
Best Wishes,
Rachel
PS: Bonnie is here in China; I think my mom and I are going to visit her in the evening.
