Dear YiB Parents,

1) Essays
2) Personal Journal Book
3) Photo requirement
4) Passport Information
5) Preparation and communications
6) Orientation on June 12

Details:

1) Thank you for some of your children who have already emailed me their essays! The essays were due May 29.

This year, as part of the personal development and leadership training, we will continue using the Learner's Profile (www.ibo.org) to guide and coach our students. One of the 10 attributes is being "Reflective." We have scheduled daily circle time for students to get together but quietly reflect on their experience in writing (or drawing for younger students) and then to share their reflection with the group.

We have learned from the past that such a practice will enhance the students' learning experience and make it so much more meaningful.

To that end, their first essay is very important because they will share it with the others to set the tone for the whole program.

If your child who is younger than 11 prefers to draw than to write, please scan his/her drawing to me. For students who can write full sentences, please encourage them to write one or two sentences to go with their drawing.

2) In the packing list under FAQ, there is a requirement for a personal journal book:

One personal journal book. For 6th graders and older, the book must be lined. You can choose a style you'd like to write on three times a week and not too heavy (but at least has 70 sheets). For 5th graders and younger, the book should be blank on which you can draw and write one or two sentences.

3) Another updated packing list item is photos. Please bring 2 photos (1" diag).

4) During the supplementary registration, when giving your passport information, please provide both the country and the number.

5) As always, please teach your child proper personal hygiene at home, which would help them stay healthy. We will be follow the current CDC guidelines on international traveling and be cooperative with the local authority. We will always keep the parents posted of our daily activities once we are in Beijing. We will announce one class parent and one back-up on June 12.

During the summer program, we will keep daily contact with all parents through email. However, if email became unavailable and there were an urgent need to contact all parents, we would call the "class parent" who would then contact all parents through email or telephone. If necessary, we would contact the U.S. Embassy for additional help.

In general, we appreciate your trust in our ability to take care of your child and to make this summer experience a successful one!

6) The location for the orientation will be tentatively at Room 200, Fine Arts Center, Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ. Please go to http://doodle.com/2z42k5bkdnspmxe2 and check off all the time slots you will be able to come. It's an opportunity for families to get to know each other. It would be OK if you could not come.

Please read the FAQ at www.yinghuasummer.org and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Regards,
Bonnie
