Dear Parents,

Today is the day for four assessments. We started the day with a trip to Chaoyang Park. I gave the students three options: 1) running the large circle around the lake - equivalent to a cross-country one-mile run. Back in less than 15 minutes. 2) running 7.5 laps on a flat 220-meter circle. No walking. 3) running with no walking for 15 minutes on the flat 220-meter circle.

15 students chose Option 1 and came back between 6'30" (Justin) and 11'40". Six students passed with Option 2. One student passed using the credit from the 200-meter deep-water swimming test at the Water Cube. Two students could not run due to physical conditions but were exempt based on their ability to run a few days ago, which was essentially Option 3.

The students were very proud of themselves for passing our assessment as some of them have never been able to run non-stop for a mile (1600 meters) before.

The one-hour language class assessment started at 8:45 a.m. followed by the leadership workshop assessment and the culture study assessment until noon.

Lunch was at a noodle house by the front gate of our hotel. Students chose the beef noodle or tomato/egg noodle. Cucumbers and peaches were also available to reduce the "internal heat."

We have been SO lucky this year that the weather has not been too hot at all. Two students have shown some mild cold-like symptoms. Local Chinese medicine usually works better than the western medicine. Please let us know should you NOT want your child to take any Chinese herbal-based medicine.

We took the Beijing subway to the Xi Dan bookstore, the largest one in Beijing, and spent an hour there. Then we shopped at the Bright Pearl Market nearby from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. including having dinner at the food court.

Then we squeezed into the Beijing subway with one exchange (from Line 1 to Line 10) and arrive home at round 9 p.m. The kids packed until half an hour passing their usual bed time.

Two students will share a room this week. They may bring one shared suitcase plus one backpack per person. We will check in the other suitcase at Yong An hotel until this Friday. We will be back for Friday and Saturday.

Hopefully we will have Internet access at the hotel. We are supposed to have it.

Your kids were SO happy today!

Regards,
Bonnie
