"YingHua in Beijing" Program
The best way to learn a language is through culture
immersion. YingHua Language School offers two programs providing learning
opportunities for American youth in Beijing, China.
Participants may be beginning Chinese speakers who have had little or no
instruction in the language or they may be students with basic language
skills who are ready for intermediate instruction.
Objectives

Language study - four to six hours per day of formal
language training accommodating for learners of varying skill levels.
Provide formal instruction in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, and
will cover reading, speaking, listening, and writing. To gain basic to
intermediate skills in Chinese.

Cultural immersion - excursions, briefings, and
discussions on key issues. Activities will include educational
excursions that serve to enhance the understanding of the Chinese history,
culture, media, ethnic diversity, and environment of China as well as
participation in a week-long survival camp with local youth of a similar
age. Participants will also have opportunities to give presentations on
their lives in the United States during the fourth week.

Leadership development - interdependence, emotional
intelligence, friendship, and caring for others. These four weekly themes
and various team activities provide a balanced program emphasizing
character building.

Physical fitness - morning exercises and afternoon
recreation activities. The week-long survival camp provide easy to
moderate physical activities. All will participate the
President's Challenge Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program
performing the five exercises that build strength, endurance and
flexibility (sit-ups, shuttle run, one-mile run, sit-and-reach, and
pull-ups).

FUN - yes, we've got that!
The program can be extended to up to 8 weeks -
available for students ages 15 - 18 upon special request. Students
participating the extended program must complete the four-week core
program. During the extended portion of the program homestays with local
families and private tutors will be arranged.
Honors Program - since Spring 2005. 20 weeks
minimum. Grades 4-9.
Participants must have good academic records (all "A"s or some high "B"s)
and can understand daily Chinese conversations. Willing to accept the
challenges.
Objectives

Expand cultural horizon - total-immersion in a
different culture, understand how people from other culture live and
think.

Character development - boarding school in a safe and
healthy environment. Learn to deal with special and challenging situations
related to cultural differences as well as those being the "regular" part
of growing up - away from parents. Tremendous opportunities for high
achievers!

Academic study - Intense academic courses offered in
Mandarin Chinese. Teachers experienced with students with similar
background provide needed special/private lessons and guidance. Achieving
academic excellence is not the goal, but realistic goals will be set with
guidance.
