(Total 31 sessions, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays between September and June)
For students who have a Mandarin Chinese-speaking environment at home.
Speaking Mandarin Chinese at home regularly is considered to be part of this curriculum. Some students can understand most of what is spoken in Chinese to them but prefer answering in English. We suggest that their parents continue speaking Chinese to the children and speaking Chinese among themselves in front of the children. Learn to paraphrase their words in Chinese as a way to confirm that you have heard what they've said in English. Persistence is the key.
(Total 31 sessions, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays between September and June)
For students who do not have a Mandarin Chinese-speaking environment at home.
Parents should borrow audio/visual materials from YingHua Chinese Education Library as supplemental materials. Students, especially young students, should try to listen to Chinese tapes for at least 30 minutes daily for at least 3 months in order to get "an ear" for the four tones in Chinese pronunciation.
